Ok, let’s start our interview with DNTE, that he’ll explain us a new conception of the bass music.
Dubneo: Hi Dnte, and welcome in Dubneo. Let’s star talking about your career. Could you tell us how did you start? I know that you started a long time ago, with hiphop.
DNTE: (hehe) you are a well informed person J Let’s see, i would say, yeah defo with hip hop , but before music I tried many other things such as drawing , writing lyrics but, at the end I realized that music is the art which fits me the best.
I like this kind of freedom which is provided by the music, because you have many opportunities to explain your feelings and thoughts in this great deep, colorful language.
Every layer and every note has an individual meaning in time and space.
My earliest memory with music is that when i was … dunno exactly how many years old, but something like 4-5, and I held my fathers’s guitar…yeah funny time.
So music just came into my life, i was 14 when i bought my first digital piano, which was actually a piece of sh@t, but i can say that point is when everything has started.
I used to go to hungarian hip hop parties and I made friendship with some hip hop bands. We have been keeping touch.
Dubneo: After these experiences, that perhaps had you longing for something of your own, you started producing. Your ideas, your experiments, gave form to your first Ep in 2011 “Wake me up”. How did this project start?
DNTE: My songs reflect my experiences and I had started to collect those and i put them under a concept which was “a guy who has to wake up and face the truth”. That’s why I gave the ’Wake me up’ album title too. ‘How can I feel’ was the first song I finished on the album , and – ’Good morning’ , ’Suburmarine’ and the others. That album was mostly for finding my ways.
Dubneo: How did you meet your label, the Resistant minds records? How was working with them?
DNTE: We had found each other on SC. I followed Duktus, and I sent him my demo stuff and He introduced me RM and the rest is history .
It was fun to work with them, they are really good and big ”family”, we did many concerts together with Chris Medleigh. We are still in contact, but my music doesnt really fit in their direction all the time, So i have several releases under different records/labels too.
Dubneo: You are a fan of wonky, a genre not much known by the large audience. It had been able to unite two different cultures such as the European and the American one, under the same flag. Here the hiphop melodies had been put inside the dub step rhythm. May be it is one of the most interesting things of the last decade. What do you think?
DNTE: Yeah i am fan of the music. I think the best thing is that we cannot say this music is pop or that is electro or wonky, futuregarage, trap, tropical, beatmusic, etc…nowadays . Of course EGO can label music but honestly we don’t really have borders anymore among the genres. When we approach music as a feeling we will see that the music is much more than waves, noises.
Dubneo: Let’s talk now about nowadays music. Somebody says that we reached a deadlock, that there is nothing new to invent, that it is difficult to say something new. People working in the business are saying the same. Those who buy music seem sometimes confused; once there was only iTunes, now there are more and more online music stores where it is also difficult to find all of one artist’s production and where it is difficult to be updated with all the new releases. What do you think of it?
DNTE: There is nothing new under the sun. We have limited tonescale and everything was written until the 16th century. But music is much more than a piece of everything , the way how we are developing is new, how the artists are interacting with each other and how they inspire-influence other are all new. We have a tons of micro trends and we have a lots of interesting directions. I like that we have more and more online music stores.
Dubneo: Somebody says that now, with the new technology that gives everybody the chance do make music using a simple pc, and sell it on an online shop, music quality is getting low. Not from a technical point of view, but form the creative point of view. Everybody is using the same software, the same samples, and electronicmusic generally seems all the same. What do you think of it?
DNTE: I dont think so it’s a question of technology. It’s more like question of creativity. “Anything can be creative – you bring that quality to the activity. Activity itself is neither creative nor uncreative. You can paint in an uncreative way. You can sing in an uncreative way. You can clean the floor in a creative way. You can cook in a creative way.”
Dubneo: I heard that you are working at a new project. What can you tell us about it? some anticipation ?
DNTE: I have just finished my new EP ( Moments ) which will be released by Mad Hop records. We have just got the mastered songs from Gargle&Expel Studio so everything is on the good way. It will be available to order on 12” vinyl and digital form too. I am working on some remixes and my new live act too.
Dubneo: Well, our interview has come to end. I thank you very much and I wish you the best luck for your career. Let’s keep us updated as to live dates and news. Ciao
DNTE: Thank you Dubneo
